"Gunpowder" is based on a poem written by Cass Brostad titled "4th of July on the 24th Street Overpass". I was drawn to the rhythm of the words and how the words conveyed a quiet sadness even when surrounded by celebration.
lyrics
Gunpowder
(Hoshaw, Brostad)
I was young once you know
Young and barefoot and past my prime
Holding magic in my hands
Drawing dogs of fire in the sky
I was young once you know
I was young once you know
I was young once you know
I was young once you know
Fat and red
The moon rises beside you
A blood moon
You sweat
Bullets in the sulfur
And it hides you
Gunpowder
Gunpowder
I was young once you know
Young and barefoot and past my prime
Holding magic in my hands
Drawing dogs of fire in the sky
I was young once you know
I was young once you know
I was young once you know
I was young once you know
Fat and red
The moon rises beside you
A blood moon
You sweat
Bullets in the sulfur
And it hides you
Gunpowder
Gunpowder
Gunpowder
Gunpowder
Gun-Gunpowder, Gun-Gun-Gunpowder
I was young once you know
Gun-Gunpowder, Gun-Gun-Gunpowder
I was young once you know
Gun-Gunpowder, Gun-Gun-Gunpowder
I was young once you know
Gun-Gunpowder, Gun-Gun-Gunpowder
